We'll even get you started - our family used to pile in the car (before seat belt laws of course) with some hot cocoa, all bundled up and drive around neighborhood to neighborhood and check out all the wonderful light displays. It's been years since we've done that...and boy do I miss it!

Our new family tradition is to get together with all the moms and kids in our regular playdates and have a big holiday party. We're getting together at a firehouse this year, and Santa (one of the dads) will be making an appearance. The moms have a holiday cookie swap, too, so we all go home with lots of goodies.
Our family tradition includes putting up Xmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving, going around the neighborhoods to see Xmas lights, and doing free activities at the neighborhood malls.
Growing up, our family always made homemade donuts on Christmas morning after the presents were opened, and now we do the same with our 2 boys. We have powdered sugar, glaze and cinnamon sugar and to be honest, i am suddenly really looking forward to that
we take our sons to the annual christmas party in our small maine hometown. it is held on the street so we all bundle up and spend time with our neighbors, drink cocoa, sing carols, and the kids anxiously await santa who shows up every year in a horse drawn sleigh.
One of my favorite traditions is we go to Christmas eve service and then when we get home we get to open one gift (it is always a Christmas nightgown or pajamas). We have also started a new one where I wrap up the Christmas books and number them. Then each evening the kids open one and get to read it for their bedtime story. They really like it and the books each get special attention.
Since I have been married we have kind of combined family traditions. Most of our big traditions fall on Christmas Eve starting with a big program featuring the kids (and adults) doing skits, dances, read alouds...you name it. We also have a treat we call "Red Rousers" where you basically make an ice cream float with vanilla ice cream and cranberry juice. It is delicious! Before going to bed, the kids all get to open a Christmas Eve present which is always a new pair of pajamas.
My mom adores us kids, but she was disappointed to find that each of us got our singing skills (or lack thereof) from our father. Consequently each year would go by and she could never talk anyone into going christmas caroling with her.
In middle school I learned how to play the flute (which she played through high school) so from then on every year I'm home we go flute caroling together. The neighbors love it and we always have requests to visit different homes.
Our family has several siblings that live in the same city. We like to get together to plan out the holiday meal, we then choose the items that we each will cook. Each year we rotate who hosts the festivities!
We open all of the family gifts on Christmas Eve, then on Christmas morning we have "skinny" pancakes and open Santa gifts!1
